Job Title:Serious Injury Lawyer

Location:Wakefield (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary Range:£35,000 – £55,000

Working pattern:Hybrid - but only 2 days a month in the office


Job Summary

Are you an experienced Serious Injury Lawyer eager to advance within a supportive and dynamic law firm? This role involves managing a specialist portfolio of claimant serious injury cases, predominantly RTA-based, with quantum and complex technical issues typically ranging between £100,000 and £250,000. You will also guide junior colleagues and drive departmental growth as we continue to expand.

Core Responsibilities

  • Exceptional Client Care: Provide high-quality support and guidance to individuals who have suffered serious, life-altering injuries.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Collaborate with your Team Leader to set objectives, monitor performance, and nurture the development of team members.
  • Technical Expertise: Conduct thorough case reviews and provide insightful feedback to colleagues, helping maintain excellence in legal standards.
  • Client Communication: Engage regularly with clients through calls, emails, and face-to-face meetings, managing expectations and offering reassurance.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: Work closely with specialists, including medical experts, case managers, care professionals, architects, forensic accountants, and legal counsel.
  • Legal Strategy & Documentation: Investigate liability, causation, and quantum. Draft essential legal documentation, including statements, pleadings, and schedules of loss.
  • Rehabilitation & Settlements: Secure early interim payments and ensure clients receive the best possible rehabilitation. Focus on achieving maximum settlements.
  • Efficient Case Management: Utilise a task-based case management system, ensuring timely client contact, efficient time recording, and consistent, high-level service.
  • Business Development: Raise the firm’s profile by networking with organisations such as APIL, Headway, and SIA. Contribute to articles, case reports, and testimonials.
  • Mentorship of Junior Lawyers: Provide training and developmental support, particularly in multi-track personal injury litigation.
  • Target Achievement: Excel in a results-driven environment while upholding the highest quality of client care.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake any other responsibilities that contribute to the department’s success.


Key Performance Indicators

You will agree upon KPIs and targets with your line manager in regular one-to-one meetings. These sessions will help identify areas for further training or additional support to ensure continuous professional growth.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor or Fellow of CILEx with at least four years’ post-qualification experience (or equivalent), recoverable at Grade B rates.
  • Demonstrable serious injury claims experience, with strong litigation skills and comprehensive knowledge of court procedures.
  • Proven commitment to delivering exceptional client care.
  • Strong communication skills, including negotiation and handling objections.
  • Ability to deliver targets in a fast-moving environment without compromising on quality.
  • Proficiency in case management systems, along with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organisational capabilities.

Desirable

  • A collaborative and motivated team player, with a track record of mentoring junior staff in multi-track personal injury.
  • Confidence in promoting your professional profile through affiliations with Headway, SIA, or APIL.
  • Positive, self-driven mindset, adaptable to change, and efficient under pressure.
  • Enthusiasm for personal injury law and a desire to advance in serious injury litigation.
