Cambridge, United Kingdom | Permanent, Full time | Flexible | Salary Range: £35,000 to £55,000 DOE About Nu Quantum Nu Quantum is on a mission to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory and to shape the future of quantum information systems. We’re working on cutting-edge technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. We integrate novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups. The Role As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for helping to create the tools that our scientists require to develop, test, build, and enhance Nu Quantum’s quantum networking solutions. You will be part of the software team, which develops software for internal lab use as well as the control and user interfaces for our prototype products. This includes the automation of scientific experiments and the development of graphical user interfaces and firmware to run on embedded systems. You will work closely with an agile software team dedicated to high-quality delivery. We work closely with our scientists and engineers to define requirements, design solutions, and maintain and test deployments. Responsibilities Develop software in Python and Rust to interface with proprietary optics, electronics and mechanical hardware, and third-party scientific equipment. Work alongside FPGA and electronics system integration specialists to enable state-of-the-art quantum network control systems. Develop user interfaces for streamlining product demonstrators and measurement control. Make proactive, creative recommendations in all aspects of work, including improving our workflows and system design. Requirements Your Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Ability to solve complex problems and communicate your solutions to a diverse audience Proactive thinking, and a positive mindset. Dedication to delivering well-tested and reliable code. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent industry experience. Designing software to control test equipment or other hardware Other (Desirable but not required) Experience writing firmware for embedded microcontroller applications Experience working with Agile or Agile-inspired methodologies Workflows for continuous integration Design of graphical or web-based user interfaces.
