What does a Senior Production Support Engineer do at Hogarth?

As Senior Production Support Engineer, you will support a team of Production Support Engineers in one of Hogarth’s UK facilities. This facility can comprise of one or many business lines across print, digital and moving image. You will be working closely with the relevant Head of Departments to ensure first class support to the production users and associated workstations and infrastructure to provide a stable and fully functioning production environment. You will play a key part in assessing new technologies to help optimise our end-to-end production workflow.

  • Overall responsibility for Production Engineering at a Hogarth facility.
  • Liaise with Heads of Department for Print, Digital and Moving Image Operations.
  • Research the latest software and developments across production technology.
  • Work on projects to implement new software, hardware and technology.
  • Bridge communication with the Hogarth IO team on new emerging technologies and innovative solutions with production teams.
  • Research solutions to challenging shoots.
  • Attend and feedback from industry Expos such as NAB, IBC, MPS, SIGGRAPH etc.
  • Collaborate with the wider global production technology team to ensure working to global operational and security standards.
  • Setup new workstations across Mac, Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Lead the support function around all production technology equipment used in the facility including edit, audio and grading suites.
  • Escalate and formally report faults to specialist engineers (including third party support when required).
  • Communicate production issues with the wider tech team and management to provide workable solutions.
  • Define and document standard operating procedures for the team and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Manage and mentor engineers in your team and ensure on-site engineering coverage for the facility during operating hours.
  • Work closely with the Production Technology Manager.
  • Maintain an awareness of other Hogarth Production facilities.
  • Provide support and cover for other Lead Production Engineers.

This role reports to the Production Technology Manager.

You will work closely with all print, digital and moving image teams.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in similar role in a media production environment.
  • An excellent working knowledge of media production processes and services.
  • Have a proactive, flexible approach and actively suggest new ideas.
  • Capability of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A flexible attitude to working out of hours when required.
  • Effective problem solving, able to recognise root causes and identify ways to overcome them.
  • Able to adapt to new working methods and practice technology advances.
  • Keep abreast of changes in technology by investigating new systems, techniques and equipment, particularly Adobe technologies.
  • Keep up to date with the industry by building and maintaining a network of contacts.
  • Advanced knowledge of macOS, Windows 10 and Linux operating systems.
  • Excellent technical understanding of production workflows for print, digital, moving image, audio as well as colour pipeline, acquisition formats and technical standards.
  • Extensive experience of production software and hardware including Autodesk Flame / Flame Assist, Adobe Creative Cloud, Davinci Resolve, Baselight and Avid Protools.
  • Experience of Render farms (software and hardware) and render managers (Deadline etc).
  • Experience of software deployment tools including Jamf Pro and Microsoft Intune.
  • Extensive knowledge of production centric, high-performance core infrastructure, including scalable SAN and NAS systems, networking, servers, workstations and associated security requirements (Quantum would be an advantage).
  • Good command line and scripting knowledge.
  • Prior people management experience would be an advantage.
