The Role

We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant/Associate in Computational Chemistry for a 2-year position in the team of Dr Daniel Cole at Newcastle University.

You will use quantum chemistry, combined with cross-disciplinary work in data science, to deliver molecular mechanics force fields that bridge the gap to quantum mechanical accuracy for biological modelling and computer-aided drug discovery. They will work with project partners at the Open Force Field Initiative, an international academic-industry partnership, to use data-driven approaches to improve the functional form of the molecular mechanics force field. They will collect and analyse the data needed to increase the throughput and accuracy of force field parameterisation. They will develop open software packages and methods, and interface them with workflows for structure-based drug design.

We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment and we would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working.

To apply, please complete an online application and upload a CV and cover letter. Your cover letter is a supporting statement, and you should outline how you meet the essential criteria of the role and evidence this with examples.
