About us

Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. From advances in material science to complex chemistry simulation for drug design and discovery, quantum computers will help solve some of the world’s most important challenges. Riverlane is building the quantum error correction stack to make this happen. It’s a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

As a Quantum Error Correction Researcher at Riverlane, you will help us to develop Deltaflow, the world’s first Quantum Error Correction (QEC) stack.   This exciting opportunity is to join our Decode team, which is developing the decoder, right at the heart of Deltaflow.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Riverlane's more theory-focused quantum error correction teams, which works to understand how future large-scale error-corrected calculations will be run on quantum computing hardware. This team is a mix of mathematicians, physicists and software developers, working together on a range of exciting and cutting-edge projects. As a QEC researcher, you will lead projects within the team and, as Riverlane continues to grow, there will be opportunities for those interested in leadership roles.

Collaborating extensively with other teams within Riverlane, as well as with world-leading external partners, the critical work you will do as a Quantum Error Correction Researcher will directly contribute to Deltaflow.

What you will do

As a QEC Researcher at Riverlane, your work will vary and will include:

  • Read and discuss academic papers with your teammates, identifying the most important and scalable results
  • Learn about new approaches to quantum error correction, coming up with new decoding algorithms, or modifying existing ideas as a result
  • Collaborating with HW engineers to implement protocols and algorithms in the QEC stack
  • Sharing expertise and collaborate with other teams at Riverlane to guide development of various parts of the QEC stack
  • Writing papers and present work at conferences

Requirements

What we need

  • MSc in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Proven ability to undertake high-quality theoretical or technical work (for example, through a Master’s thesis, internship, or publication)
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for translating academic expertise into an applied industrial setting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas with a variety of audiences in a clear and simple way
  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++

Even better if you have…

  • Knowledge of classical and/or quantum decoding algorithms
  • QEC experience evidenced by internships or publications
  • Experience running experiments on quantum computers

How to apply

Please upload a CV and covering letter by clicking 'Apply Now'. Your covering letter should explain why you are applying for the job and what skills and experience you can bring to the role.

We review CVs as we receive them and interview as soon as we have applications that look like a good match (usually within one week). We do not use closing dates. So, please apply as soon as possible to avoid missing out on this role. We advertised this role on the 30th October 2024.

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and learning, including an annual training and conference budget
