Cambridge, UK | Full-time | Permanent |  Salary: £62,000 to £88,000 DOE

About the role  

As a Senior Quantum Error Correction Researcher at Riverlane, you will help us to develop the world’s first Quantum Error Correction (QEC) stack that will unlock useful quantum computing.   

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Riverlane’s more theory-focused quantum error correction teams, which works to understand how future large-scale error-corrected calculations will be run on quantum computing hardware. This team is a mix of mathematicians, physicists and software developers, working together on a range of exciting and cutting-edge projects. As a senior researcher, you will lead projects within the team and, as Riverlane continues to grow, there will be opportunities for those interested in leadership roles.  

Collaborating extensively with other teams within Riverlane, as well as with world-leading external partners, the critical work you will do as a Senior Quantum Error Correction Researcher will directly contribute to Riverlane’s Quantum Error Correction Stack.  

What you will do  

As a Senior QEC Researcher at Riverlane, your work will vary and will include:  

  • Exploring existing and developing new QEC protocols 
  • Exploring existing and developing cutting edge decoding algorithms 
  • Collaborating with HW engineers to implement protocols and algorithms in the QEC stack 
  • Leading projects involving a small team of colleagues  
  • Developing relationships with new partners and customers  
  • Sharing expertise and collaborate with other teams at Riverlane to guide development of various parts of the QEC stack  
  • Writing papers and present work at conferences  

Requirements

What we need  

  • PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)  
  • Proven ability to undertake high-quality theoretical work (for example, through publications)  
  • Experience driving the direction of scientific work  
  • Experience leading projects involving multiple people  
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas with a variety of audiences in a clear and simple way  
  • Some knowledge of QEC  

  

Even better if you have…  

  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++  
  • Knowledge of classical and/or quantum decoding algorithms 
  • QEC experience evidenced by a scientific publications  
  • Experience running experiments on quantum computers  
  • A track record of winning contracts or grants
