Liability Adjuster
Job Description
The Aviation Liability Adjuster is responsible for handling all aspects of loss adjusting and other consultancy assignments. The Aviation Liability Adjuster handles claims relating to personal injury, aircraft, vehicle and general third-party property damage and cargo, baggage, and personal accident from first notice to settlement as authorised by the customer, as well as subrogation action against third parties
Key Responsibilities
To learn and understand the principles of Aviation Law and to apply them to adjust legal liability claims within regional market.
To handle all classes of liability claims, to include file administration, telephone contact, responding to correspondence and reporting to Underwriters as appropriate.
Pro-actively handling claims in order to determine reserves and relevant indemnity and liability positions
To gain an understanding of the procedures adopted by the Aviation Insurance Market for the handling and processing of claims.
To review and keep up to date with recent case law/legal precedents and apply the principles to future claims handling.
To gain an understanding of medical terms in respect of personal injury claims and to gain a clear understanding of how to access all aspects of quantum.
To develop negotiation skills in the handling of third-party legal liability claims
To travel for the purpose of claim investigation as and when required.
To be responsible for and to co-ordinate own correspondence in connection with claims files being handled.
To open and close files and maintain records of fees, budgets and time recorded on files and to be responsible for own time recording for fee purposes.
To support and assist adjusters in the handling of the department's casework on behalf of
Underwriters and their Clients.
Utilise technical system (Darwin) to ensure efficient and effective claims handling and recording of time.
Develop awareness of market and competitor activities, providing relevant reports and information.
Identifying and contributing to new business development opportunities.
Forging strong relationships with key accounts to maximise revenue opportunities and account retention.
Carrying out business development and corporate relations activities for Sedgwick Aviation.
