Who we are looking for

State Street is seeking an experienced Cryptographic Key Operations Lead to oversee the end-to-end lifecycle management of cryptographic keys across cloud, on-premises, infrastructure, and IoT environments. This role ensures the secure generation, distribution, rotation, revocation, and retirement of encryption keys while maintaining compliance with regulatory and security policies. Additionally, the Key Operations Lead will manage and mentor a team of Key Management Engineers, driving operational excellence and automation to enhance key lifecycle processes. This role requires close collaboration with security, IT, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to maintain the availability, reliability, and security of key management services, supporting business-critical operations and financial transactions.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements.

What you will be responsible for

  • Lead and manage a team of Key Management Engineers, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical leadership to ensure effective cryptographic key lifecycle management.
  • Oversee the daily operations and security of cryptographic key management, ensuring compliance with financial industry regulations (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR, FIPS 140-2/3).
  • Drive the secure generation, storage, distribution, rotation, revocation, and retirement of encryption keys across cloud, on-premises, and IoT environments.
  • Monitor and respond to key management incidents, such as key compromise, expiration, or policy violations, ensuring timely remediation and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with security, cloud, infrastructure, and DevSecOps teams to integrate cryptographic services into enterprise applications, infrastructure, and IoT security frameworks.
  • Optimize and automate key management processes, leveraging APIs, key management platforms (KMS), security orchestration tools, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability of key management services to support secure transactions and data protection.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of key management processes, procedures, and operational workflows.
  • Provide reporting and analysis on key usage, compliance, performance metrics, and risk exposure to senior leadership and auditors.
  • Stay up to date with emerging cryptographic technologies, security threats, and regulatory changes, ensuring that key management practices evolve accordingly.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in key management operations, cryptographic security, or information security within a financial institution or other regulated environment.
  • Strong expertise in cryptographic key lifecycle management, including symmetric and asymmetric encryption, PKI, and HSMs (Hardware Security Modules).
  • Experience with enterprise key management solutions (AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault, OCI KMS).
  • Familiarity with financial security regulations and standards, such as PCI DSS, FIPS 140-2/3, and NIST guidelines.
  • Security certifications such as CISM, CISSP, CCSP, and AWS Security Specialty.
  • Experience with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) readiness and emerging cryptographic frameworks.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence.

Additional requirements

Travel up to 25% may be required.

How to Get a Better Quantum Computing Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Redundancy in the emerging field of quantum computing can feel particularly discouraging, especially after years of specialised training and research. But as the UK continues to invest in quantum technologies across academia, defence, computing and cryptography, new roles are opening in both startups and national programmes. Whether you're a physicist, quantum software engineer, hardware specialist, or quantum algorithm researcher, this guide will help you turn redundancy into an opportunity for career growth.

Quantum Computing Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Work Out Your True Worth in Seconds

Why yesterday’s pay survey is meaningless in today’s quantum landscape Ask a Quantum Software Engineer debugging Qiskit kernels at midnight, a Cryogenic Hardware Engineer coaxing qubits below 10 mK, or a Quantum Algorithm Researcher squeezing decoherence budgets: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The honest answer shifts faster than a Rabi oscillation. Since early 2024, the UK Government funded £2.5 billion across its National Quantum Strategy, Amazon Braket and Azure Quantum slashed circuit prices, & post‑quantum cryptography mandates yanked quantum literacy into cyber road‑maps. Each shock nudges salary bands. Any PDF salary guide printed last year looks like an outdated calibration curve—blind to the silicon spin‑qubit breakthroughs in Cambridge, the Oxford ion‑trap scale‑ups, or the London quantum‑software unicorn that closed a £200 million Series C. To swap guesswork for evidence, QuantumComputingJobs.co.uk has distilled a transparent, three‑factor formula. Feed in your discipline, region, & seniority & you’ll instantly see a realistic 2025 salary benchmark—no stale averages, no vague “competitive” claims. This article unpacks that formula, highlights the forces pushing quantum‑computing pay skywards, & gives five practical moves to lift your market value inside ninety days.

How to Present Quantum Computing Solutions to Non-Technical Audiences: A Public Speaking Guide for Job Seekers

Quantum computing is one of the most advanced, promising—and misunderstood—fields in technology. While the science behind quantum algorithms, qubits, and entanglement is complex, your ability to explain it clearly is becoming a core skill for anyone pursuing a job in the sector. Whether you're applying for a quantum software developer role, a research position, or a client-facing solution engineer post, many UK employers now assess your ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences—especially funders, executives, policy-makers, and clients. This guide will help you structure your presentations, simplify quantum concepts, use effective visuals, and deliver with confidence. Because in quantum computing, how you communicate is just as important as what you compute.
