Mechanical Engineer – Hybrid Role | Oxford | Up to £50k
Engineering & Software Development | Full-time

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join an innovative quantum technology company in Oxford. This hybrid role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge opto-mechanical systems, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to turn experimental concepts into engineered solutions.

The Role:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design, prototype, and test mechanical components and assemblies for optical and ultra-high vacuum systems. You’ll work hands-on in CAD (SolidWorks), perform structural and thermal analysis, and support prototype assembly while ensuring designs are manufacturable and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities:



Capture and interpret mechanical design requirements for optical and vacuum systems.

Develop CAD models, technical drawings, and documentation packages.

*

Support rapid prototyping, assembly, and testing of components and systems.

*

Collaborate with production teams and external suppliers for component procurement and integration.

*

Apply engineering analysis to guide design decisions and communicate results effectively.

Requirements:

*

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or similar.

*

Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience.

*

Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and technical drawing practices (GD&T).

*

Experience with structural and thermal analysis.

*

Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

*

Desirable: experience with optical systems, lasers, photonics, harsh environment design, or ISO-certified manufacturing environments.
