Job Summary

Quantemol is seeking a Technical Programme Manager to lead and coordinate the delivery of complex R&D software and scientific projects. You will take primary responsibility for planning, executing, and monitoring customer-facing and internal development programmes, ensuring alignment between scientific research, software engineering, and business objectives.

The role sits at the intersection of project management, scientific software development, and company operations, helping ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard of quality. You will work closely with leadership, researchers, engineers, and external partners to translate technical goals into successful outcomes.

This is a full-time, hybrid role with attendance at our London offices required on average 2 days per week. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK. Proof of eligibility will be required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver R&D programmes from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with technical, commercial, and strategic objectives.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope definition, timelines, resource allocation, budget and risk management.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across scientific research, software development, and external collaborators.

  • Monitor programme progress, identify risks and dependencies, and implement corrective actions where required.

  • Act as the primary interface between internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders, including customers and partners.

  • Translate scientific and technical requirements into structured deliverables and development roadmaps.

  • Prepare regular reporting for senior leadership and the Board, including progress updates, risks, and performance metrics.

  • Support business development activities, including identifying opportunities, shaping proposals, and contributing to grant applications.

  • Contribute to operational processes, including project governance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across workflows.

  • Assist with customer engagement, including technical discussions, progress reviews, and occasional on-site visits.

  • Support broader company operations where required, including coordination across infrastructure, data, and software systems.

  • Ensure compliance with data protection, security, and relevant regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in a scientific, engineering, or computational discipline.

  • Experience managing technical or R&D projects in a scientific or engineering environment (industry or academia).

  • Strong organisational and programme management skills, including planning, risk management, and delivery tracking.

  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including scientists and software engineers.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including stakeholder and executive reporting.

Exceptional Candidates

  • Proven experience delivering complex, multi-stakeholder R&D or software projects.

  • Experience working directly with customers or external partners on technical programmes.

  • Track record of contributing to grant applications, funding proposals, or commercial project development.

  • Experience in operational or leadership roles within a small or growing technology company.

Preferred

  • PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.

  • Background in plasma physics, computational chemistry, or related fields.

  • Familiarity with scientific software development workflows and tools.

  • Experience with Agile or hybrid project management methodologies.

  • Understanding of data pipelines, scientific databases, or simulation software.

  • Experience with budgeting, resource planning, and performance measurement.

Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK.
