We are seeking aLead Digital Electrical Engineer in ourBroomfield, Co, location to join the team developing our Apollo quantum computer (Quantinuum system roadmap). The ideal candidate will be a mid-career Electrical engineer with a background in system conceptualization, design, manufacture, & test of complex electrical systems. This role will work alongside technical leaders to refine the system architecture, prototype & design electronics in the Apollo quantum computer control system. This role will be instrumental in bridging the system’s ultimate architectural vision with practical implementation based on insight learned from iterative design of prototypes. The individual in this role will be primarily focused on the core digital control system, which facilitates the precise coordination of a massive amount of electronics required to operate our quantum computers. Candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, multi-functional, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in an R&D and rapid prototyping environment
  • Develop a complex electronic control system capable of controlling digital, analog, and RF signals
  • Define and develop fast turn prototypes to demonstrate critical system requirements
  • Refine system architecture based on iterative prototypes results to define ultimate production design
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to define new concepts and technologies used to control quantum computers
  • Work closely with FPGA developers to implement these concepts then validate them on internal developmental testbeds
  • Evaluate new software and hardware technologies to improve the control of Quantum Computers
  • Perform circuit design and analysis, embedded software development, and/or FPGA design and verification
  • Lead design teams to complete projects
  • YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in digital board design, including schematic capture and layout (Altium PCB software preferred)
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working in an R&D and rapid prototyping environment
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on lab experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of High-speed serial PCB designing & simulation
  • Minimum 2+ Board design experience using FPGAs, processors, high-speed serial, and DDR memory
  • Minimum 2+ System architecture for complex digital systems
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
  • WE VALUE:

  • Demonstrated technical excellence in two or more of the following:
  • Xilinx-based FPGA design and verification experience, including proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, and System Verilog
  • Design of low noise analog electronics, ADCs, & DACs
  • Background in closed-loop control theory
  • Experience working with optics & lasers
  • Experience working with low-phase-noise electronics
  • Experience developing and testing RF electronics
  • Proven leadership ability that includes program execution, skills development, and mentoring of junior engineers
