About the Role

Rigetti is seeking a Software Infrastructure Manager to lead the team responsible for building and operating the software infrastructure that powers our quantum computing platform.

You will sit at the intersection of cloud systems, on-prem laboratory infrastructure, and semiconductor fabrication environments, supporting both internal research systems and the infrastructure behind Rigetti’s quantum cloud platform.

This role comes at a critical moment for the company. Rigetti is transitioning from primarily offering quantum computing as a cloud service toward deploying quantum devices in external environments, which requires evolving our infrastructure architecture to support hybrid deployments across cloud and on-prem environments. At the same time, the company is maturing operationally, introducing stronger operational processes, security and compliance frameworks, and greater reliability in production systems.

The Infrastructure Manager will lead a small but highly capable team, helping bring greater structure, resilience, and coordination to the infrastructure organization while ensuring the platform continues to scale alongside the company’s growth.

Rigetti’s environment is technically complex, combining cloud-native systems with specialized quantum hardware and semiconductor fabrication equipment, making infrastructure work both challenging and highly interdisciplinary.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide leadership and cohesion for the infrastructure engineering team, helping align priorities and ownership across the group

  • Manage and support the development of infrastructure engineers while fostering a collaborative and sustainable team culture

  • Increase organizational resilience by reducing reliance on individual experts and building stronger shared knowledge across the team

  • Support hiring and help build the case for expanding the infrastructure team as the company grows

  • Infrastructure Platform Development

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the infrastructure supporting Rigetti’s quantum computing platform, including AWS-based cloud systems, Kubernetes-orchestrated container workloads, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI), infrastructure automation (Terraform and Ansible), and backend services built primarily in Python/Flask.

  • Support data infrastructure including Postgres databases and Kafka streaming pipelines

  • Maintain hybrid infrastructure integrating cloud systems with on-prem laboratory and fabrication environments

  • Improve internal developer tooling and infrastructure usability to increase engineering productivity across teams

  • Guide architecture discussions around hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure supporting both research environments and external deployments

  • Infrastructure Maturity & Operational Excellence

  • Help mature Rigetti’s infrastructure capabilities as the company scales by introducing more robust operational practices and processes

  • Improve system resilience, reliability, and documentation for production environments

  • Identify opportunities to simplify overly complex infrastructure patterns and improve operational efficiency, including examining/improving cost structure

  • Cross-Functional Infrastructure Support

  • Work closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams including software engineers, quantum engineers, and hardware teams
Support the company’s transition toward external hardware deployments, requiring infrastructure that operates across both cloud and on-prem environments

  • Integrate infrastructure systems with lab devices, fabrication environments, and specialized hardware platforms

  • Vendor & Networking Coordination

  • Manage relationships with infrastructure and networking vendors

  • Evaluate long-term networking strategy and opportunities to bring additional networking capabilities in-house

  • Coordinate with contractors and partners supporting infrastructure and networking systems

  • Requirements

  • Experience leading or managing Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE teams

  • Experience building infrastructure in startup or rapidly evolving environments

  • Strong hands-on experience with modern infrastructure stacks including:

  • AWS or other major cloud providers

  • Kubernetes and containerized workloads

  • Infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)

  • Experience supporting production distributed systems

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across highly technical teams

Quantum Jobs in the UK: Roles, Skills, Salaries and How to Get Hired (2026 Guide)

Quantum Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and skills across quantum computing, communications, sensing and cryptography — and how to get hired. In the UK, most quantum jobs cluster around hubs such as London, Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol and Edinburgh, with common titles including Quantum Software Engineer, Quantum Algorithm Developer, Quantum Hardware Engineer and Post‑Quantum Cryptography Specialist. The easiest way to browse live quantum jobs is via specialist boards like QuantumComputingJobs.co.uk, which curate roles specifically in this field so you are not lost in general STEM listings. This guide covers everything you need to know about quantum jobs in the UK in 2026: what roles exist, which skills are in demand, typical salary ranges, and how to position yourself to get hired.

Where to Advertise Quantum Computing Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise quantum computing jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, academic networks and consortia that reach quantum hardware and Qiskit talent. The global talent pool is tiny — measured in thousands, not tens of thousands — and concentrated around a small number of university physics departments, national laboratories and well-funded hardware startups. Many of the strongest candidates hold PhDs in quantum physics, quantum information or adjacent disciplines and are embedded in academic or research communities that rarely intersect with mainstream job boards. General platforms are largely ineffective for quantum hiring. Specialist boards, academic channels and direct community outreach are not optional extras — they are the primary sourcing strategy. This guide, published by QuantumComputingJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise quantum computing roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
