We are seeking anAtomic Physicist for Ion Trapping & Integrated Photonics in ourBroomfield, CO Location. Our team is developing integrated photonics technologies that will enable scaling of our trapped-ion quantum computers from our current 98-qubit Helios system to our future 1,000,000-qubit Lumos system (Quantinuum system roadmap). The data and expertise from our group informs the design of all our next-generation systems, including Apollo and Lumos, from the big ideas to the tiniest of details. We are looking for experimental scientists and engineers with hands-on experience building and operating complex atomic physics systems, taking and analyzing datasets, and collaborating across disciplines. All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with a small team and a broad range of collaborators to design, develop, verify, and deploy methods and technologies pushing the frontier of ion-based quantum computers.
  • Build, run, and maintain a new trapped ion testbed to support innovation in next-generation ion traps with integrated photonics.
  • Create new atomic physics tools and setups to study the impact of novel trap materials and integrated photonics devices on trapped ions.
  • Take and communicate trapped-ion data to inform decisions on Apollo and Lumos system architecture, photonics design, fabrication techniques, and the performance of next-generation quantum computers.
  • Collaborate and work with a diverse team, including atomic physicists, engineers, and fabrication experts to validate integrated photonic and trapped-ion technologies.
  • Plan, design, and build new equipment to target the high-sensitivity requirements for an ion-trap based quantum computer.
  • Communicate results both internally and externally through documentation, publications, and presentations.
  • Work in a research lab environment to collect and analyze data on system and device performance.
  • YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelors degree minimum
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience (degree inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: experimental atomic physics, experimental optics & lasers, precision experimental control systems
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with trapped ions, neutral atom cooling & trapping, and/or atom-based quantum computers
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience (degree inclusive, building complex atomic physics systems
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
  • WE VALUE:

  • Masters or PhD in physics or engineering
  • Experience with design or operation of a device for quantum information or computing
  • Experience with design and implementation of complex optical apparatuses
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments and/or data analysis
  • Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis
  • Experience with software version control and data archiving
