Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Diamond Quantum Memory Chips
Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford This is a 3-year PDRA position to develop memory chips for quantum communications systems, based on colour centres in diamond. With a background in quantum devices based on diamond colour centres, you will be self-motivated, able to plan and deliver a research project. You will have a PhD (or be near completion) in physics, engineering or materials science and experience in device fabrication and/or experimental studies of quantum photonics or spin-based quantum logic. Working within the EPSRC Hub in Integrated Quantum Networks, we are developing a scalable platform for quantum communications based on electronic and nuclear spins in diamond coupled to an optical network. The light-matter interface consists of cavity-coupled colour centres with initial focus on the nitrogen-vacancy centre but possibilities to work also with group 4-vacancy defects. Building on our expertise in the engineering of colour centres and fabrication of optical microcavities in diamond, the aim of the project is to demonstrate a working device that can be implemented in a testbed network. All applications must be made online using the Oxford University E-Recruitment system, no later than 12 noon on 15 January 2025.
