Physics Teacher

At Universal Quantum we aim to make the world a better place by engineering the future of computing. Together, we are creating truly impactful quantum computers. Our machines will be capable of solving problems until now considered impossible, with applications ranging across a broad range of industries including healthcare, materials and aerospace.

We are looking to hire an ITC professional to be the first point of contact for our team’s IT needs, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while contributing to broader IT and security initiatives. Passionate about technology and excited to grow in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment? We may be the right place for you—get in touch!

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Serve as the first line of IT support for ~100 hybrid working employees (domestic & international), resolving hardware, software, and system issues.
  • Leverage ITSM systems to log, track, manage and resolve incidents/requests promptly, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Provision, configure, and maintain IT equipment such as laptops, monitors, printers, and meeting room technology.
  • Onboard new employees, including device procurement, account setup, device configuration, and IT induction sessions.
  • Maintain and update an accurate inventory of IT assets, software licences, and hardware.
  • Contribute to IT security initiatives, including endpoint management, patching, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Assist with managing and optimising the IT infrastructure (e.g., network connectivity, VPNs, firewalls, physical/virtual servers).
  • Collaborate with senior IT staff to implement and improve security practices, such as monitoring for potential threats and addressing vulnerabilities.
  • Leverage existing/recommend new tools or processes to enhance IT efficiency and security.
  • Proactively identify and suggest ways to improve IT processes and user experience.

The 3 Most Critical Attributes We’ll Use to Compare Candidates

  1. Passion for IT, providing excellent support, and a desire to take on additional responsibilities in areas like IT security and local/wide area networking.
  2. Problem-solving mindset: resourceful and able to troubleshoot complex issues while maintaining a user-focused approach.
  3. Excellent communication skills: clear and approachable, capable of breaking down technical concepts for non-technical staff.

Must-have Skills

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in an IT service desk or ITSM support role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, and client side productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft 365).
  • MS 365 administration (e.g., user account creation, group management, SharePoint/Teams access control).
  • A good understanding of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting (e.g., IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs) with a willingness to learn and grow in this area.
  • Familiarity with endpoint security practices (e.g., antivirus, encryption, patch management).
  • Experience with remote support tools.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interest in learning and applying best practices in IT security and infrastructure.
  • Excited at the idea of taking on additional responsibility, including new training if appropriate.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Certifications such as MCP or equivalent.
  • Experience with IT security tools or practices, such as SIEM, MFA, or vulnerability management.
  • Experience using Atlassian JIRA.
  • Familiarity with Linux (workstation/server).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Workspace).
  • Exposure to virtualization and VM Management.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and engineering R&D environments.
  • Understanding of quantum computing or curiosity about the field.

Competitive salary, equity options, flexible holiday allowance (a minimum of 28 days), flexible and remote working options, 10% matching pension, generous parental support policy, private health/dental insurance, and relocation support.

How to Get a Better Quantum Computing Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Redundancy in the emerging field of quantum computing can feel particularly discouraging, especially after years of specialised training and research. But as the UK continues to invest in quantum technologies across academia, defence, computing and cryptography, new roles are opening in both startups and national programmes. Whether you're a physicist, quantum software engineer, hardware specialist, or quantum algorithm researcher, this guide will help you turn redundancy into an opportunity for career growth.

Quantum Computing Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Work Out Your True Worth in Seconds

Why yesterday’s pay survey is meaningless in today’s quantum landscape Ask a Quantum Software Engineer debugging Qiskit kernels at midnight, a Cryogenic Hardware Engineer coaxing qubits below 10 mK, or a Quantum Algorithm Researcher squeezing decoherence budgets: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The honest answer shifts faster than a Rabi oscillation. Since early 2024, the UK Government funded £2.5 billion across its National Quantum Strategy, Amazon Braket and Azure Quantum slashed circuit prices, & post‑quantum cryptography mandates yanked quantum literacy into cyber road‑maps. Each shock nudges salary bands. Any PDF salary guide printed last year looks like an outdated calibration curve—blind to the silicon spin‑qubit breakthroughs in Cambridge, the Oxford ion‑trap scale‑ups, or the London quantum‑software unicorn that closed a £200 million Series C. To swap guesswork for evidence, QuantumComputingJobs.co.uk has distilled a transparent, three‑factor formula. Feed in your discipline, region, & seniority & you’ll instantly see a realistic 2025 salary benchmark—no stale averages, no vague “competitive” claims. This article unpacks that formula, highlights the forces pushing quantum‑computing pay skywards, & gives five practical moves to lift your market value inside ninety days.

How to Present Quantum Computing Solutions to Non-Technical Audiences: A Public Speaking Guide for Job Seekers

Quantum computing is one of the most advanced, promising—and misunderstood—fields in technology. While the science behind quantum algorithms, qubits, and entanglement is complex, your ability to explain it clearly is becoming a core skill for anyone pursuing a job in the sector. Whether you're applying for a quantum software developer role, a research position, or a client-facing solution engineer post, many UK employers now assess your ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences—especially funders, executives, policy-makers, and clients. This guide will help you structure your presentations, simplify quantum concepts, use effective visuals, and deliver with confidence. Because in quantum computing, how you communicate is just as important as what you compute.
