You'll work alongside Who's Who Legal Experts, tackling high-profile domestic and international disputes, driving results in a range of disputes.

This role is made for ambitious leaders who thrive on delivering expert-level quantum analysis and possess a proven track record of success.

Candidates for Director-level construction dispute appointments will have a well-established network of legal professionals and will be able to use their network to develop and generate new dispute work for their employer.

Responsibilities and Duties

Working as a Quantum Expert in the Birmingham office, you will collaborate with the Quantum team to prepare analysis and expert reports for high-value and complex arbitration and litigation proceedings.

  • Lead the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Develop contract and commercial strategies to successfully recover performance of distressed projects or major programmes, aligned with client outcomes.
  • Review and assess project records to establish quantum related to claims and disputes.
  • Ideally, have experience testifying.
  • Perform Quantum Forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively with the client and supply chain, chair meetings as necessary.
  • Analyze project and programme performance to identify root causes of distress.
  • Provide strategic advice throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Develop and pursue claims within the supply chain.
  • Research emerging industry technologies and stay updated on developments in your technical area.
  • Support and guide junior staff on specific tasks.
  • Interface with clients and consultants at all project stages.
  • Contribute to winning and delivering new work.
  • Participate in recruitment and hiring processes.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in construction and engineering, including disputes.
  • Experience working on claims for major or complex projects in roles such as QS, contract administration, or engineering before specializing in Quantum.
  • Familiarity with claims and dispute proceedings.
  • Experience testifying and being cross-examined.
  • Proven ability in detailed Quantum Forensic Analysis.
  • Ability to attract new clients and work.
  • Good knowledge of contracts like NEC, JCT, and FIDIC.
  • Knowledge of relevant applications such as BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR.
  • Experience leading claims through the supply chain to successful resolution.
  • Ability to understand and articulate client requirements and outcomes.
  • Strong report writing skills, with prior evidence of report writing preferred.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar construction field.
  • Master’s degree in a construction-related specialty, preferably in construction law (LLM) or similar.
  • Ideally MRICS, MInstCES, or working towards Chartership.
