We are seeking aDirector of Microfabricationfor ourPlymouth, MNlocation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Distill overall business direction into strategic objectives for the microfabrication department, including long-term technical scope, resource planning, departmental policies and procedures, partnership and IP strategy
  • Identify, engage, and leverage 3rd parties to achieve strategic and tactical microfabrication objectives. This will include vendors, suppliers, strategic partnerships, major subcontracts, and collaborative research agreements. With Strategic Sourcing, be accountable for these collaborations and their success in meeting Quantinuum objectives
  • Identify department-level resource needs and drive strategy to fill key gaps
  • Manage/mentor of section-managers and key individual contributors within the department
  • Lead all stages of development of microfabricated ion traps and associated microfabricated devices, including new concept creation, design, layout, fabrication, packaging, test, and delivery
  • Own and oversee programmatic execution of the department plans, including:
  • Tracking and reporting of progress against the plan (with Program Management)
  • Resource allocation and prioritization to meet the milestones
  • Risk/opportunity identification and management
  • Accountability for all department results and interdependencies with internal and partner organizations

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree minimum
  • Minimum 15 years' experience (PhD/Masters inclusive) in one or more of the following areas: Ion trap design and fabrication, integrated optics of waveguides, chip-scale photonics, MEMs-type device fabrication
  • Due to US export control laws, must be a U.S. citizen
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

WE VALUE:

  • PhD in Physics or Engineering preferred
  • Relevant work experience in a micro-fabrication process environment
  • Experience with a wide range of semiconductor/MEMS processes and processing tools including layout, deep reactive ion etching, photolithography, e-beam lithography, thin film deposition and electroplating
  • Knowledge of on-chip photonics, wafer fabrication and fiber-to-chip coupling
  • Prior experience building, leading, developing and motivating teams, both with direct reports and also indirect (matrix) reports on both permanent and temporary assignments
  • Experience dealing with IP protection including joint IP agreements with external partners
  • Experience with Finite Element Modeling (mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, optical and multi-physics) of MEMS-like structures
  • Experience with 2.5/3D packaging
  • Experience working in an R&D environment
  • Published results within their field of research
  • Experience working within a cross-functional team environment
  • Understanding of quantum computing and experience working in the field
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts
