Job Purpose:  

Keoghs are seeking to recruit an Indemnity Large Loss Lawyer for our team in Southampton or Bristol. This role offers the opportunity to assist a Lead Lawyer on RTA personal injury claims in excess of £1m as well as have responsibility of running your own multi-track files.

The role would suit someone with strong experience of indemnity and/or liability and complex medical issues. Ideally, we are seeking an individual with the indemnity knowledge who wants to further develop themselves on the areas of liability and causation. Also, someone who can engage and build relationships with senior claims handlers of long-standing insurance clients. There will be opportunities to work with the Lead Lawyer in activities that will enhance and develop the Keoghs’ profile.


Key Responsibilities

You will work as part of a team progressing each file from receipt of papers from the insurer client to resolution of the claim dealing with all aspects of liability and quantum as well as indemnity issues as they arise. The role will include all appropriate actions to effectively:
  • Manage a caseload of up to 45 large loss complex injury claims consisting of claims typically valued up to £1m.
  • Achieve a chargeable hours target of 6.8 per day
  • Work with the Lead Lawyer to manage claims in excess of £1m including claims involving catastrophic injuries.
  • Have a working and practical knowledge of motor insurance indemnity / coverage. The candidate will understand the insurer client’s contractual obligations to its customers; the scope and applicability of the Road Traffic Act 1988, Article 75 of the MIB’s Articles of Association and the MIB Uninsured and Unidentified Drivers’ Agreements; issues of policy avoidance and misrepresentation under the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012; etc. 
  • Communicate and advise insurer clients on all aspects of claims and keeping them updated as the matter progresses. 
  • Develop relationships with Keoghs’ clients in order to attract work on an instruction by instruction basis.
  • Delegate to more junior members of the team and be fully engaged in their development in terms of technical ability and achievement of objectives.
  • Maintain case management systems


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

As well as all the usual skills that make you a professional lawyer, for this role we are looking for: 
  • A qualified solicitor, CILEX or proven equivalent relevant legal experience
  • High value personal injury multi track file handling experience 
  • Experience ofindemnity, liability and complex medical issues and causation 
  • Experience working in a similar role assisting on large loss and/or catastrophic injury claims 
  • Critical thinking and quantum analysis experience  
  • Good advocacy skills. 
  • The desire and ability to help guide and develop less experienced members of the team
