The salary range for this role is broad, as we are able to consider varying levels of experience. Any offer made will carefully take into account level of experience (including relevant industry experience), transferable relevant skills and previous relevant achievements.

We will also consider part-time applications for this role. Please indicate your preferred working schedule in your cover letter.

About us

Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved. Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

Having raised more than $125M in funding to date to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), Riverlane partners with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

At Riverlane, we build new and advanced solutions to solve one of the hardest problems in quantum computing: quantum error correction (QEC). Our cutting-edge solutions must work seamlessly with varying customer requirements, in different environments and for multiple types of quantum computers. To ensure that we can achieve this effectively, we rigorously test our innovative software and hardware solutions and measure performance, identifying any integration issues early on.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proven System Test Engineer to support the critical testing of Riverlane’s groundbreaking products.

What you will do

You will work alongside engineering teams throughout the entire feature development process of our products. You’ll identify test requirements for new features and design novel tests to ensure that the quality of our product remains high as these features are integrated. You will develop a deep systems level understanding of our products, which you’ll bring to the fore when working with other engineers to identify the underlying causes of test failures.

In addition to developing novel tests, you’ll ensure that existing nightly tests remain reliable, diagnosing any regressions. You’ll also identify opportunities to implement new ways of working to improve the quality of our system test infrastructure and accelerate the quality assurance cycle.

We're creating something truly unique, complex and large-scale, so being comfortable with engineering to evolving specs is key. As such, you will be happy and excited to get hands-on quickly in areas outside your own expertise. You will also thrive in a collaborative environment, work well with different people and be team-oriented.

Prior quantum computing knowledge is not necessary - you will learn this along the way!

Requirements

What we need

  • Proven experience as a System Test Engineer
  • Expertise with Python3, with a good understanding of pytest.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining continuous integration flows.
  • Understanding of scripting for networking: connecting remotely to a Linux machine; sending and retrieving data; extracting logs.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Familiarity with hardware development or testing for FPGAs, ASICs, or embedded microcontrollers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Curiosity to learn about new technologies, including quantum computing and quantum error correction
  • Experience with standard development practises, such as source control (e.g. git), continuous integration and unit testing
  • Ability to work collaboratively, with a diverse range of people

Even better if you have

  • Experience of setting up and maintaining test rigs.
  • Familiarity with linear algebra and statistics.
  • Familiarity with dashboards creation (for test reporting).

Benefits

What can you expect from us

A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme

  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and learning, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
  • A choice to do work on either a Windows laptop or a MacBook.
