Job Description:

Quantinuum is seeking to hire a System Reliability Engineer for our Cambridge-based cloud platform, Quantinuum Nexus. Our team supports quantum researchers at every stage of an experiment, making working on quantum computers as easy as sending an email.

The successful candidate will be an expert in managed Kubernetes instances such as Amazon EKS and the distributed systems built on them. Managing architecture, performance, security, and cost will be core responsibilities. Experience with tools like Helm, Karpenter, and k9s is essential.

Experience with collecting logs, traces, and metrics via Opentelemetry, and making those available through AWS products like X-Ray and CloudWatch, is required. These readings will be used to ensure Nexus meets high standards for performance and reliability, or to guide improvements.

You will be active in reporting, monitoring, and diagnosing issues and outages. Programming experience to understand production code and correlate it with monitoring data is necessary. You will work closely with the development team to resolve issues swiftly.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Experience collecting logs, traces, and metrics for distributed systems
  • Experience using AWS CloudWatch to identify bugs and performance issues
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform
  • Experience working on cloud-based systems where uptime is critical

It would be desirable to have:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience in continuous deployment environments
  • Debugging and troubleshooting skills in code
  • Professional experience with Python
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry standards and SDKs

Veterans in Quantum Computing: A Military-to-Civilian Pathway into Quantum-Tech Careers

Introduction Quantum technology is shifting from physics‑lab curiosity to strategic capability. London and Oxford spin‑outs have already attracted £1.4 billion in private investment (UK Quantum Landscape 2024), and HM Treasury’s £2.5 billion National Quantum Strategy (2024‑2034) aims to create 80,000 new jobs by 2030 across computing, sensing, and communications. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) treats quantum supremacy as a national‑security imperative—funding quantum‑safe cryptography pilots and battlefield quantum‑sensing via Dstl and the Defence Quantum Technologies Centre (DQTC). For veterans, quantum shouldn’t feel alien. Whether maintaining chilled infrared sensors, securing cryptographic keys, or troubleshooting avionics at 3 a.m., you have cultivated the rigour, resilience, and security clearance that quantum employers crave. This guide shows how to translate military experience into quantum‑computing careers, leverage MoD transition programmes, and land roles building tomorrow’s most powerful machines.
