Join Nu Quantum - Shaping the Future of Technology

Nu Quantum is at the forefront of quantum computing and advanced technology, driven by innovation, diversity, and a commitment to excellence. We’re creating an environment where brilliant minds from all backgrounds collaborate to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Founded to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory, Nu Quantum is on a mission to shape the future of quantum information systems.

We’re working on exciting technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. We integrate novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups.

The Role

Nu Quantum is leading several research and development projects with key academic, government and industrial partners that are aimed at de-risking and accelerating the path to distributed quantum computing systems. The person in this role will be directly involved in managing the successful delivery of these projects and our internal projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with a mixture of engineers and research scientists from industrial and academic backgrounds to establish and maintain project scope, timeline and budget requirements for projects in a challenging R&D feasibility setting.
  • Tracking progress and reporting upwards to the Programme Manager and Head of Operations, to support communications with external stakeholders; the Nu Quantum Board of Directors, customers and investors.
  • Attending internal and external project meetings, capturing and tracking project actions.
  • Pioneering and championing PMO process development in a start-up environment.
  • Working closely with the Nu Quantum Finance and Procurement teams on budget estimation, reporting, procurement processes and documentation, ensuring these are as streamlined as possible for the project engineers.
  • Contributing to project management thought leadership; participating in the Nu Quantum “Lunch and Learns”, leading by example and informally coaching and mentoring engineers on PMO processes and tools.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with a range of engineers and stakeholders.
  • Promoting psychological safety and championing conflict resolution in project teams.

Requirements

About You

  • A project management qualification, e.g. PRINCE2, APM, PMI.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in establishing user needs and drafting and maintaining requirements.
  • Good documentation management skills, e.g. DHF, DMS.
  • Troubleshooting processes and documentation, e.g. FMEA, RCA.
  • Experience in preparing and managing project budgets.
  • Competence in project management tools, e.g. MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, YouTrack, Miro, Trello, MetroRetro, etc.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment involving changes to priorities and schedules.
  • Organised, proactive, and with a positive and agile mindset.
  • Flexibility, the ability to problem solve and re-plan at short notice.
  • A keen interest in a technical project management career, with a view to developing further on this career path.

Other (Desirable but not required)

  • Physics/engineering qualification or equivalent experience in an industrial setting.
  • Industry experience delivering hardware-focused projects.
  • Experience and understanding of systems engineering, verification and validation processes.
  • Experience in managing teams and/or line management.
  • Ideally four years of experience in a Project Manager role.

10 Quantum Computing Recruitment Agencies in the UK You Should Know (2025 Job‑Seeker Guide)

Quantum technology has raced from theoretical promise to practical prototype faster than any deep‑tech field in recent memory. The UK—already home to world‑class physics departments at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Bristol—doubled down in late 2024 by adding £2.5 billion to the National Quantum Strategy, lifting the public‑funding pot to £5.5 billion through 2030. Private capital keeps pace: Dealroom logged £1.1 billion in UK quantum‑venture funding during 2024, while corporates from BP to Barclays spun up quantum‑proof‑of‑concept teams. Despite the cash surge, the sector’s headcount remains tiny. Research by the UK Quantum Skills Taskforce (Lightcast job‑ad data, June 2025) counts about 8,000 quantum‑skilled professionals nationwide—spread across algorithm research, cryogenic hardware, photonics, quantum‑software and adjacent DevOps. Yet monthly live vacancies average 120 – 150 nationwide, occasionally peaking near 200 when multiple start‑ups raise Series A rounds simultaneously. That mismatch turns every credible opening into a high‑stakes contest, and the right recruiter can be the difference between a generic rejection email and a signed offer. But not every tech agency truly “does” quantum. Many wave the buzzword without a single qubit vacancy on the books. To protect your time—and your CV—we vetted 60 + firms and kept only those with rock‑solid evidence of quantum‑computing placements: live job ads, dedicated practice pages, conference sponsorships or original salary research.
