Overview

The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking dynamic candidates with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be working on fabrication technologies for radically novel optical fibers, including glass preform manufacture, optical fiber drawing and associated processes. The role will involve close interaction with the Engineering and Operations teams to take new fabrication methods for next generation fibers and turn them into robust and reliable processes that can be successfully transferred into volume manufacture by the production team. Additionally, you will be required to support the scaling up of the new fabrication facility to meet customer demand and company ambition. As such, this role involves hands-on work in our state of the art Romsey facility 5 days per week.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Technical engineering experience

OR Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Photonics, Engineering, Physics, or related field AND technical engineering experienceOR Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Photonics, Engineering, Physics, or related field AND technical engineering experienceOR Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Materials Photonics, Engineering, Physics, or related field Relevant experience of developing and documenting optical fiber coating processes Relevant experience of inline and offline optical fiber coating characterisation Proven experience in polymer coating process engineering for optical fiber Implementation of statistical process control methods and their application Improvement in yield through identification and reduction of waste and stabilisation of production processes Practical knowledge of optical fibers and their properties Use of lean problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies and practices Demonstrated ability in innovative development and practical application Experience in root cause analysis for fiber coating defects and failure modes Knowledge of cleanroom working environment and disciplines Capability to arrange and analyse data to identify trends and correlations Knowledge of full product lifecycle from concept through to production

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

Knowledge expert for optical fiber coatings and key properties (optical and mechanical) Design and lead experiments to perform accelerated failure analysis Root cause analysis of defects and failure modes Drives team to ensure yield and continuous improvements into mass production and prioritize manufacturing focus through use of process control tools and analysis of measurement data to identify trends and correlations in coating performance Lead activities between the Engineering and Operations groups in order to manage materials supply and quality of incoming material Lead fibre coating development projects and transfer the process from prototype phase to production phase Leads the development and management of documentation in support of process technology, operating procedures and process control requirements Managing projects to identify novel and improved manufacturing methods Having key responsibilities in the development of next-generation production methods Contributing in first person, and visibly support, the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment
