SCIB Associate, Trade & Working Capital Sales

Business area introduction

GTB is part of Santander Corporate & Institutional Banking and is responsible for working capital and risk mitigation solutions, covering Payables, Inventory and Receivables finance, through a variety of structures together with traditional and structured trade finance. The role ultimately reports to the Head of Trade & Working Capital Origination, UK. GTB UK also covers Cash Management and Export Finance.

Key activities

  • Own and develop client relationships, focusing on- Consumer, Retail & Healthcare (CRH) as well as Telecoms, Media and Technology (TMT) clients - An experienced team in a rapidly growing part of Santander GTB's product range.
  • Build a strategic plan as to how the Santander's Trade and Working Capital solutions can support our clients in achieving their goals
  • Build sector expertise and analyse trends on the relevant sector in relation with the Santander Trade & Working Capital products
  • Generated and lead senior level client meetings to share the Santander vision on how to support the client in achieving its strategic goals.
  • Advise clients and prospects on how they can implement Trade and Working Capital solutions and the impact of such solutions on key metrics.
  • Deliver an income target on a pre-agreed portfolio of clients grouped by sector, ensuring quantum and quality of results (in terms of profitability over capital deployed and appropriate diversification in products and clients)
  • Work with our Global partners to deliver tailored solutions to the clients.
  • Cross-sell other GTB products (ECA, cash), introducing the appropriate counterparty, as and when the opportunity arises.
  • Work with CIB to develop commercial plans, business strategies, risk presentations and similar across the portfolio.
  • Ensure adequate follow-up on transactions via meeting notes / call reports et al to deliver new opportunities and revenue.
  • Monitor performance of the business and the evolution of the pipeline, reporting performance via MIS / senior management as required.
  • Coordinate with the risk department on specific transactions, ensuring risk appetite is aligned with commercial plans for the client.
  • Comply with the governance of the Santander Group and SLB, engaging with all parties required including Risk, Legal, MO, Operations, Compliance.
  • Perform first line of defence role for the bank across all risks: Financial, Legal, Reputational, Regulatory, Compliance, etc.


What we're looking for

  • Experience in the financial service industry, with meaningful experience in sales roles, with direct P&L responsibility
  • Sound knowledge on Trade finance (Rec. Discounting, Supply Chain Fin, Doc Trade & Structured Trade finance).
  • Proactive approach towards working independently and in teams.
  • Being able to liaise with other areas of the bank, namely Legal, Risk, Middle Office and global product teams for structured transactions.
  • Degree level or equivalent level qualification.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to adopt, widen and understand the GTB UK product portfolio to enable cross-selling.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach to marketing and sales with an ability to place the client at the centre of the process.
  • Good planning, organization and communication skills.
  • Financial qualification (e.g. CFA, ACA, ACT, CITF, CISI certificates) desirable
  • Asset finance (ECA & leasing) and cash management product knowledge.
  • Spanish language skills desirable

This role is based in our Triton Square office in London, conveniently located within walking distance from Euston Station and Warren Street Station.
