About the role
The postholder will simulate and model quantum computer networked systems to create distributed quantum computing. They will formalise and parameterise the requirements as well as explore the dependencies between technologies (quantum processors, interconnects), quantum information transfer methods (entanglement) and networking to identify performance (latency, fidelity, scalability) and operational limits. We will research the performance of monolithic and entanglement-based distributed quantum circuits with direct and switched entanglement links. The postholder will also explore heterogeneous data centre networked architectures to seamlessly support both quantum and classical computing.
The postholder will be expected to take the lead on the on simulation and modelling of the distributed quantum computing system. Moreover, the postholder will work with the other UCL researchers in the project as well as the ONG group and project partners.
This post is available from 14th January for 9 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available. The salary range is UCL Grade (£38, - £41, per annum, inclusive of London Allowance).
About you
The successful applicant should have an MSc in Quantum Technologies (or about to obtain it) or a related discipline with proven experience in the areas of quantum computing, techniques to distribute quantum circuits and GPU-based simulation acceleration techniques. Given that research will be disseminated at conferences and through journal papers, the applicant should have excellent written and spoken English, and presentation skills.
Knowledge & experience of optical switching systems, random circuit sampling and the ability to bench mark the performance of a system.
