A Quantum Associate Director position is available in Birmingham, suitable for a high-caliber Quantity Surveyor currently working with a major contractor on sizable UK projects and live contracts.

This challenging role requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. It offers a fantastic opportunity for top-tier contractors or PQS Quantity Surveyors to engage with some of the most interesting and complex construction disputes, currently heading towards or actively involved in arbitration, adjudication, or litigation worldwide.
Responsibilities and Duties
As an Associate Director in the specialist Quantum division of the construction disputes team, you will collaborate with noted quantum experts and the delay team in Birmingham to determine the best approach for litigation or arbitration matters, assisting clients in achieving desired legal outcomes.
You will report to a Senior Associate Director and support their workload by undertaking senior quantum-related duties across arbitration, expert witness, adjudication, and live project work related to contract administration or distressed project support.
Specific Quantum Associate Director Responsibilities:
Analyze construction accounts, costs, values, and payments to identify errors or opportunities, leveraging your Quantity Surveying background.
Undertake technical analyses using appropriate methodologies and prepare reports for use in expert reports for arbitration and adjudication.
Assist in writing sections of quantum expert reports under supervision, which will be reviewed by senior team members.
Desired Skills and Experience
Candidates should have recent experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a reputable UK main contractor or a high-caliber PQS/Cost Consultancy.
Key requirements include:
At least 3 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying or cost control roles, covering pre- and post-contract work and contractual matters.
Experience managing the commercial aspects of construction contracts, assessing claims, and resolving disputes.
Knowledge of key contract forms such as NEC3 ECC & PSC, framework agreements, and bespoke contracts.
Experience in claims assessment, dispute discussions, risk management, and contract reviews.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft reports, letters, and briefing documents in English.
Proficiency with relevant software tools like MS Office, MS Project, Primavera P3/P6, Suretrak, etc.
Ability to communicate technical material to non-technical audiences and demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar.
Desirable: Progress towards a Master’s degree in construction law or related fields, such as an LLM.
Willingness to pursue MRICS or MInstCES qualifications in the future.
