About the Role

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking to appoint three Professors in Applied Quantum Technology (QT) in Physics & Astronomy, Mathematics and Computer Science. These senior positions are expected to shape our future strategy and the recruitment into future academic posts and tenure track fellowships.

About You

Successful applicants will be outstanding researchers within their field with the ambition to lead internationally recognised research and innovation within the rapidly growing QT sector.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conducting and developing pioneering, world-leading research
  • Leading transformational research projects, publishing in top-tier journals and presenting at international conferences and forums
  • Securing research funding and supervising postgraduates and researchers, enhancing the department's research profile
  • Providing academic leadership and mentorship
  • Steering the departmental research strategy and mentoring staff and students, bolstering the University's reputation in applied quantum technology
  • Representing the department at national and international levels, fostering academic collaborations and interdisciplinary research
  • Advancing teaching and curriculum development
  • Delivering high-quality lectures and tutorials, supervising student research and driving curriculum innovation
  • Providing academic guidance, supporting inclusive learning experiences and contributing to the strategic planning of educational programmes
  • Fostering industry collaboration and public engagement
  • Initiating industry partnerships and public outreach, translating research into practical applications and societal benefits
  • Designing interdisciplinary curricula and facilitating professional development, enhancing the employability and expertise of graduates

Person Specification

Experience

  • Have an internationally recognised research profile in applied quantum technology, evidenced by internationally-leading publications and esteem indicators
  • Have extensive experience in delivering excellence in education and a commitment to students and curriculum innovation
  • Be able to demonstrate a successful record of securing and managing significant external research funding

Skills

  • Be capable of coordinating interdisciplinary research projects and working collaboratively across multiple institution
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, essential for effective teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration and engaging with a broad audience
  • Be skilled in building and maintaining academic and industry networks to enhance institutional reputation and collaborative opportunities
  • Possess proven leadership skills in research and experience in mentoring researchers and staff to foster academic growth
  • Have capabilities in knowledge transfer, industry collaboration and public engagement to enhance the practical impact of research
