Oxford Ionics, now part of IonQ, is pioneering the next generation of quantum computing. Using our world-leading trapped-ion technology, we’re building the most powerful, accurate and reliable quantum systems to tackle problems that today’s supercomputers cannot solve.

Joining Oxford Ionics means becoming part of a global IonQ team that is transforming the future of quantum technology - faster, at scale, and with real world impact.

What to expect:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to join our Operations team as an Office Manager for our brand new, state of the art office facilities in Oxford. In this dynamic role, you will ensure the positive and efficient functioning of our office environment. What you’ll be responsible for:

As Office Manager, you will be the operational backbone of the workplace, ensuring the office runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. This role combines hands-on execution with proactive organisation, requiring someone who takes pride in creating a well-run environment that supports employees, visitors, and the wider business. The responsibilities below outline the core areas where you’ll have direct ownership and impact.

Responsibilities include:

  • Space Management: Desk plans, hot-desking system management, key holding, logging and allocation, stationary ordering and upkeep, security policies, etc.
  • Refreshments & Catering: Ordering and restocking of fridge/cupboard supplies, external catering, and one-off catering needs for social/planning events.
  • Socials: Support with delivery of social events, company events, planning days, celebrations, company retreats, etc.
  • Visitor Management: First port of call for visitors physically and on the phones, deliveries, etc.
  • Building Management: Organising and managing general building maintenance, water temperature/lighting testing, cleaning contractors, alarm systems, security, etc.
  • Health & Safety: Organising and managing fire protocols and equipment, first aid training and kits, DSE assessments and equipment
  • Postage & Courier Services: Logging and distribution of all inbound posts, as well as logging and organisation of all outbound post/courier services.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who brings positive energy, practical problem-solving, and a genuinely service-oriented mindset to everything they do. This role suits a highly organised, hands-on operator who is comfortable juggling multiple priorities, communicating clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, and using common office tools to keep things running smoothly. Rather than a rigid checklist, the requirements below describe the capabilities and approach that will help you succeed and grow with the team.

  • Our Operations team empowers our technical teams to deliver their best work, and your positive energy will be a key part of that mission. You'll thrive in this role if you're skilled with various office software, including G-suite, spreadsheets and databases and are used to being hands-on to get things done. Prior experience in a responsive role with experience in finding ways to make people’s day-to-day working life easier is a bonus.
  • This role requires excellent time management and the ability to prioritise effectively. You should be comfortable multitasking and handling multiple responsibilities accurately and efficiently. Your strong communication skills will be vital for engaging with our internal teams and external visitors. Moreover, your initiative in suggesting improvements to our policies and procedures will be highly valued as we aim to grow and streamline our operations.
  • No formal qualifications are required. We value transferable skills from various industries that can bring diversity to our team and thought processes. Therefore, if you feel you do not meet the requirements mentioned, we still encourage you to apply if you are passionate about making a positive contribution to our team's success.

Benefits

Be part of a team that’s shaping the future of quantum. We offer more than just a role, you’ll join a world class community of scientists, engineers and innovators working to unlock the full potential of quantum computing.

We offer a range of benefits, including opportunities to further your career alongside industry leaders, a competitive salary with IonQ stock options, an annual performance bonus, generous annual leave, flexible hybrid working, private medical and dental insurance for you and your family, and much more.

Join us and be part of the future of quantum computing.

Maths for Quantum Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them) Linear algebra essentials, probability, complex numbers, basic optimisation.

If you are a software engineer, data scientist or ML engineer looking to move into quantum computing or you are a UK undergraduate or postgraduate in physics, maths, computer science or engineering applying for quantum roles, the maths can feel like the biggest barrier. Job descriptions often say “strong maths” but rarely spell out what that means in practice. The good news is you do not need a full maths degree’s worth of theory to start applying. For most graduate & early-career roles in quantum software, quantum research engineering & quantum algorithms, the maths you actually use again & again is concentrated in four areas: linear algebra, probability, complex numbers & basic optimisation. This guide turns vague requirements into a clear, job-focused checklist. You will learn what to focus on, what to leave for later & how to build small portfolio outputs that prove you can translate the maths into working code.

Neurodiversity in Quantum Computing Careers: Turning Different Thinking into a Superpower

Quantum computing is one of the most demanding – & exciting – areas in technology. It sits at the intersection of physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering & even philosophy. The problems are complex, the systems are fragile, & the answers are rarely obvious. That’s exactly why quantum needs people who think differently. If you live with ADHD, autism or dyslexia, you may have been told your brain is “too distracted”, “too literal” or “too chaotic” for high-end research or deep technical roles. In reality, many of the traits that made school or traditional workplaces difficult can be huge strengths in quantum computing – from intense focus on niche topics to pattern recognition in noisy data & creative approaches to algorithms. This guide is for neurodivergent job seekers exploring quantum computing careers in the UK. We’ll look at: What neurodiversity means in a quantum computing context How ADHD, autism & dyslexia strengths map onto common quantum roles Practical workplace adjustments you can ask for under UK law How to talk about your neurodivergence in applications & interviews By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of where you might thrive in quantum computing – & how to turn “different thinking” into a genuine superpower.

Quantum Computing Hiring Trends 2026: What to Watch Out For (For Job Seekers & Recruiters)

As we move into 2026, the quantum computing jobs market in the UK is shifting from hype to harder-edged reality. The wildest forecasts have softened, some early-stage start-ups have pivoted or been acquired, and investors are more selective. At the same time, governments, big tech, defence, finance and pharma still see quantum as strategically important – especially in algorithms, quantum-safe cryptography, optimisation and materials simulation. The result: fewer “blue-sky” roles with no clear roadmap, and more demand for quantum talent that can plug into real programmes, real products and real timelines. Whether you’re a quantum job seeker planning your next move, or a recruiter building teams across hardware, software, theory or adjacent fields, understanding the key quantum computing hiring trends for 2026 will help you stay ahead.
