About the role
We are recruiting for an Innovation Development Manager (IDM) to join us on an internal secondment basis.
The role of the IDM is to work closely with academic staff and business/civic partners, to rapidly develop ideas emerging from UCL research into new innovations and applications with potential to attract funding from collaborative grant funding sources or directly from business and investors. The portfolio of innovation opportunities will focus on enabling technologies, in particular quantum technologies, future computing, clean energy systems and fusion technologies.
The IDM will be part of the Business and Innovation Partnerships (BIP) team in UCL Innovation & Enterprise. The IDM will work closely with the Senior Partnership manager (Enabling technologies) and they will complement the work rest of the BIP team who are responsible for coordinating strategic innovation activities. They will work in an integrated matrix setting, and be highly visible within Faculties and the rest of RIGE.

This is an internal secondment role with an end date of 31st July .

About you
You are a motivated and experienced professional with a degree in a relevant subject and good knowledge and understanding of enabling technologies, particularly in quantum technologies, future computing, clean energy systems, or fusion technologies. Your expertise extends to planning and managing events such as workshops, networking sessions, and roundtables, and you possess strong facilitation skills both online and in-person.
You bring a deep understanding of the UK Higher Education and research landscape, including innovation and commercialisation strategies. Your ability to broker successful collaborations with private sector partners has led to securing funding from UK, EU, or international sources.
With excellent organisational skills, you thrive in dynamic environments, managing complex portfolios and meeting deadlines effectively. You are collaborative and adaptable, capable of leading initiatives or supporting colleagues in diverse contexts.
Your knowledge of innovation development cycles with large firms or SMEs, along with a PhD in a relevant subject, would be a bonus but is not essential.
