Let usintroduce the role The Modelling Team in Materials and AnalyticalScience (MAS) at AWE is looking for Scientists at various stages oftheir careers across Materials, Mathematical and Chemical Modellingdisciplines to support research and development within a wide rangeof technically challenging projects. For our important mission tosupport current and future nuclear deterrent, security, and threatreduction programmes, we have new opportunities available in theMaterials Modelling discipline: The Materials Modelling teamdevelop materials models and provide a predictive capability formaterials properties, whilst applying new methodologies for newmaterials selection. Furthermore, the role involves findingmodelling solutions to difficult real-world testing problems,coordinating with external technical partners on cutting-edgeresearch projects and supporting the System modelling andsimulation capabilities for AWE's Programmes. Who are we lookingfor? We are interested in hearing from candidates who candemonstrate knowledge or experience in several of the followingareas:A PhD in Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or othernumerate disciplineExperience in constructing material models ofrepresentative systems with particular focus on molecular reactionchemistryKnowledge of Materials Science and/or polymerScienceExperience with a range of atomistic and molecular modellingtechniques including (but not limited to) Quantum Chemistry,Density Functional Theory (DFT), Molecular Mechanics and Dynamics(MM/MD), Monte Carlo (MC), Multiscale and MesoscalemodellingExperience using computational chemistry codes/softwarepackages such as but not limited to Gaussian, NWChem, ONETEP,LAMMPS, VASP, and BIOVIA Materials StudioDemonstrable understandingin areas related to molecular modelling such as quantum chemistry,statistical mechanics and chemical reaction kineticsFamiliaritywith High Performance Computing (HPC) architectures and theUnix/Linux environment.Programming and/or scripting experience inPython/C++/Shell/MATLABKnowledge of good software developmentpractices including the use of tools to support this purpose suchas GitLabAble to work independently and unsupervised, as well aswithin a team to achieve common goalsFlexible, self-motivated andthe ability to handle multiple tasksAble to provide technical inputwithin own field of expertise that can influence project, team orend userStrong communication skills verbal and written You'll needto have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a prioritychanging environment and be able to manage your own workload.
