Introduction

Your role and responsibilities

As a research scientist with IBM Quantum, your job will be to advance the field of quantum computing by developing new methods and insights that shape and execute on the IBM quantum roadmap. We are looking for researchers focused on algorithms development: areas of research could include quantum applications, quantum information theory, and compilation.

Senior researchers are expected to develop a broad research agenda and influence IBM research strategy by leading strategic research projects, defining objectives and key results, and providing feedback to align projects with overall research priorities. Senior researchers also contribute to internal growth of the team by influencing hiring decisions, serving as a mentor to junior researchers, creating growth opportunities for teammates.

Required education

Doctorate Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

  • PhD in an applicable area of quantum computing, such as quantum algorithms, quantum information theory, or compilation for quantum architectures.
  • Extensive independent theoretical research in industry or academia related to the fields listed above
  • Experience using and contributing to Qiskit
  • Publication record in high-impact journals and top conference proceedings.
  • Experience with project management or leading a team of researchers.
  • Experience working with collaborative teams on quantum theory, software, and experiment.
